This is a popular beach with the same name, located about 30 km east of Santo Domingo de Guzman on the southern shore of the island of Hispaniola.
Boca Chica was originally developed by Juan Bautista Vicini Burgos, who worked on sugar plantations in the twentieth century. Vicini was very proud of this place, but the golden age of Boca Chica was in 1950, when dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo ordered the construction of a modern hotel named "Hotel hammock. The hotel became famous more because it was there that Trujillo granted asylum to Fulgencio Batista's Cuba after the Revolution.
Hammock was closed almost immediately after Trujillo was killed in May 1961 and remained closed and abandoned more than twenty years. It was reopened in early 1990.
Between 1950 and 1960, distinguished families in the Dominican Republic built several summer properties along the beach, access is done only by private transport.
After the 1970s, have become increasingly popular beaches and public transportation helped to make Boca Chica a very populated beach, has not been withdrawn and quiet, as it was during the '50s and '60s.
Short distance from the capital of the Dominican Republic, crystalline waters and white sands, turned Boca Chica one of the busiest beaches in the Dominican Republic, especially on weekends and holidays, as are 30 km from Santo Domingo. Boca Chica has two small islands, Los Pinos and La Matica, and two marinas.
Boca Chica beach is sand and pristine. There are plenty of bars, restaurants, pizza stands, souvenir stalls and loud music all day, all along the sandy beach close to the shore. In recent years, the city was overwhelmed with tourists from North America and Europe, the months of December to April. This is one of the best places where you can enjoy swimming in warm Caribbean waters.
City of Boca Chica, after dark has a bad reputation. Later in the evening, the town turns into a friendly city with bars and prostitutes. However, it is well deserved bad reputation compared to other "hot spots" in the area.
