San Felipe de Puerto Plata, or simply Puerto Plata, Dominican Puerto Plata is the capital of the province. The city is famous for resorts such as Playa Dorada and Costa Dorada, located east of San Felipe de Puerto Plata. The only lift in the Caribbean
is located in Puerto Plata. With it, you can go up to Pico Isabel de Torres, a mountain with a height of 793 meters. The top of the mountain has a botanical garden and a replica of Christ the Savior, the famous statue in Rio de Janeiro.
Since the establishment of La Isabela, the first village in the New World (2 January 1494), Puerto Plata is the first city in the Americas.
